Sahitya Akademi Award announced: Joyshree Goswami Mahanta and others among awardees

GUWAHATI: The Sahitya Akademi Award-2019 for 23 languages was announced on Wednesday. Among the awardees are Joyshree Goswami Mahanta’s novel ‘Chanakya’ in Assamese, Phukan Ch. Basumatary’s anthology ‘Akhai Athumniphrai’ in Bodo, and L Birmangol Singh’s novel ‘Ei Amadi Adungeigi Eethat’ in Manipuri.

They relate to books first published during the five years immediately preceding the year of Award - in the period January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2017.

The awards will be given away during the ‘Festival of Letters’ at a special function in New Delhi on February 25, 2020. The award is in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl, and Rs one lakh.
