Sankardev ignites spirituality amongst Assamese, says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

 Plan for tourist circuit depicting Sankardev's pilgrimage

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the State government was planning to develop a religious tourist circuit covering the places travelled by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and steps were taken to construct tourist niwas to serve the pilgrims.

The Chief Minister visited Sualkuchi in the Kamrup district and attended the 573rd Abirbhav Mahotsav of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev at Sri Sri Sankardev Mandir today. The programme was organized by Mahapurushiya Dharmaluchoni Sabha.

Sarma said that Sankardev was a great Indian and the greatest Assamese of all times. He was a great social reformer who laid the foundation of greater Assamese society.

The Chief Minister said that the spiritual guru brought about a synthesis of Assamese and Indian cultures and fortified harmony in society.

The Chief Minister said that Sankardev ignited spiritual thoughts in Assamese society.

The Chief Minister said that considering the social and religious contributions of Sankardev, there is still ample scope for research on his life and works.

The Chief Minister further said that the State government had plans to develop Patbausi Satra where Sankardev spent considerable years of his life in line with Batadrava Satra.

The Chief Minister inaugurated Srimanta Madhavdev Library at Sri Sri Sankardev Dham at Sualkuchi today coinciding with the Abirbhav Mahotsav of Srimanta Sankardev.

Earlier, Sarma visited Mahatma Gandhi 30-bedded Rural Hospital (FRU) at Sualkuchi today and took stock of the medical facilities and other services. He also interacted with the SDM&HO, Deputy Superintendent and other medical and paramedical staff.

The Chief Minister inspected the under-construction multi-disciplinary sports complex at Sualkuchi and took stock of the progress of works, a press release said.
