GUWAHATI: The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) is introducing a new subject to impart education on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics. It will be an elective subject.

SEBA has decided to introduce the subject for Class IX in the academic session 2024-25 and as an elective subject for Class IX in the academic session 2025-26.

It should be mentioned here that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already introduced AI as a subject from classes IX to XII. From the next academic session, CBSE will start offering the subject from Classes VI to VIII.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 introduced Artificial Intelligence as a subject to promote skill education. The policy said that it was recognized that mathematics and mathematical thinking would be very important for India's future and India's leadership role in the numerous upcoming fields and professions that will involve artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, etc.

"AI is one of the skill subjects offered by SEBA. The course aims to provide students with shoes to match the pace of the developing world of technology. The curriculum of the subject is vast and filled with amazing technical information. Students who have taken the elective subject can download the details of the subject from the official SEBA website," said a SEBA official.

A free textbook published by CBSE on their website under the title 'Artificial Intelligence' will be the textbook for SEBA students in Class 9.

The CBSE book titled 'Predicting Future Artificial Intelligence' for Class IX contains chapters on Life skills, Technical skills, Conceptual skills and Employability skills.

Under Employability Skills are five units titled Communication skills, Self-Management Skills, Basic ICT Skills, Entrepreneurial Skills, and Green Skills.

The next chapter in the book is Artificial Intelligence, with eight units titled Excite, Relate, Purpose, Possibilities, AI Ethics, AI Project Cycle, Neural Networks, and Taming Python.
