Senior IAS officer Kumar Sanjay Krishna takes charge as Chief Secretary of Assam

GUWAHATI: Senior IAS officer Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Tuesday took charge as the new Chief Secretary of Assam.

Krishna, a 1985 batch IAS officer, took over the charge from Alok Kumar in a brief ceremony held at the latter’s office chamber at Janata Bhawan in Dispur.

“Within the limitation of the Constitution of India, I will work for Assam and its people. Peace, prosperity and development of the State will be my top priorities. I will work with honesty, dedication and to the best of my abilities. I will need cooperation and support of all officials and employees,” Krishna told The Sentinel.

Krishna, who joined the civil service as a probationer in Jorhat in 1985, has held many significant portfolios including important posts in the Central Government.

On other hand, the General Administration and Secretariat Administrative Department held a farewell and felicitation meeting of the outgoing Chief Secretary Alok Kumar, who retired on Tuesday after attaining superannuation, at Janata Bhawan here. New CS Krishna was also felicitated in the same function. Alok Kumar is slated to take charge as the next State Election Commissioner.
