GUWAHATI: With a view to further easing movement of traffic, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is all set to take up several flyover construction projects in various locations on the National Highways in Assam.

There is no six-lane flyover in Assam as yet.

All the proposed flyovers will be six-lane standalone ones. The projects will be implemented under Bharatmala Phase –I.

According to information provided by NHAI sources, the six-lane standalone flyovers will be constructed at Raha, Demow, Borghat, Kathiatali junction and the road over bridge (ROB) at Jagiroad. All the projects will be executed under the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) mode.

The estimated cost of these flyover construction projects is Rs 459.33 crore. The total length of the flyovers and ROB will be 12.09 km.

The NHAI sources further said there are some other flyover construction projects in the pipeline under Bharatmala Phase-I. These include a six-lane stansdalone flyover at Bongaigaon, Chapaguri, Pathsala, Simlaguri Chowk and Baihata bypass junction. These projects will also be executed under EPC mode. The estimated project cost is Rs 732 crore, involving construction of 6.33 km.

The NHAI sources said all these projects are expected to reach tender processing stage in the next fiscal year.

It may be mentioned that the NHAI is an autonomous agency of the Government of India, set up in 1995 and is responsible for management of a network of over 50,000 km of National Highways out of 1,32,499 km in India. It is a nodal agency of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
