STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: Gone are the days when the State Education Department had to write to the three different directorates of education to get details of vacancies for teaching and non-teaching staff in schools. On their part, the directorates concerned had to write to inspectors of schools (IS) and DEEOs (district elementary education officers) to get such information in detail. Now, the department has all such information in detail in its Shiksha Setu Axom portal, which lets it publish advertisements for filling up the vacancies without having to seek details of vacancy positions from the directorates, thereby cutting cost and time.
A few virtues of the Shiksha Setu Axom portal are that it has details of teacher requirements based on retirement analysis. Right now, the portal has details on the retirement of teachers for the next 24 months (two years).
According to an official of the department, a teacher is a critical component of the education system. The department requires a robust system that can predict the likely vacancies of teachers going to retire in the next 3/6/9/12 months so that the department can take the necessary measures in advance.
According to the portal, as many as 4,249 teachers are going to retire in the next three months, 7,426 teachers in the next six months, 10,547 in the next 12 months, and 20,413 in the next 24 months.
At present, the State Education Department has 14,752 vacant teacher posts in the state: 3,502 in primary schools, 7694 in high schools, and 3556 in higher secondary schools. The department disclosed yesterday that it would advertise the filling up of 13,000 posts for teachers shortly.
The portal has detailed information on 44,720 schools with 2,13,293 teaching staff and 21,843 non-teaching staff, along with 47,61,293 students.
