GUWAHATI: Continuing its investigation into the question paper-leak scam related to the recruitment of SI (Sub Inspector-Unarmed), the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) seized two vehicles and cash of more than Rs 4 lakhs during raids at two places in the city on Sunday. During the day, the CID also seized an Innova (AS19L 2829) from Bongaigaon district.
Two vehicles (Renault DUSTER— AS01DN 2490; and Maruti Suzuki Ignis — AS01EG 0685), two laptops, nine signed blank cheques, and cash amounting to Rs 4, 20, 500 were seized from the office of Trishna Global Private Limited at Geetanagar. One of the directors of this firm is Saroj Sarma, who is already in CID custody. A raid was also conducted at the Sundarpur located house where Saroj Sarma is a tenant.
The CID further arrested Manjit Bora from Kahilipara in the city. Manjit is a close associate of former-DIG (Deputy Inspector General) of Assam Police, Prasanta Kumar Dutta — allegedly the mastermind behind the scam.
With respect to the seizure of Rs 5,35,38,640 during multiple raids at various places in Bongaigaon, Barpeta, and Chirang districts on Saturday, the local police handed over three persons to the CID at its headquarters in the city on Sunday. The arrested persons are Pradip Majumdar, Rupam Das, and Tarani Banikya — all from Bongaigaon district.
Meanwhile, Police detained Jintu Nath from Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district. Jintu is a resident of Bezera in Kamrup district.
