GUWAHATI: The State government should immediately start vaccination drives in all religious places across the State. This has been demanded jointly by the 'Sadou Asom Devalaya Sangha (SADS)' and the 'Asom Xatra Mahaxabha (AXM)' here on Saturday.

Talking to The Sentinel, the secretary general of of the 'Sadou Asom Devalaya Sangha', Kailash Sarma said, "To tackle the second wave of COVID-19, all steps must be taken to arrange vaccination drives in all religious places across Assam. The authorities can set up vaccination centres at all the 108 doul-devalayas across the State. Then the priests and also other people can be vaccinated."

The principal secretary of the 'Asom Xatra Mahasabha', Kusum Kumar Mahanta further said, "The government can also utilize the premises of a few xattras as vaccination centres. Such vaccination centres can be set up at the Bordowa Xatra, Sri Sri Ramraikuthi Xatra, Satrasal in Dhubri district; Sri Sri Tarabari Kalshila Xatra at Morigaon; Kamalabari Xatra at Majuli; Barpeta Xatra, among others."

Mahanta further said, "Besides, it has to be ensured that the huge number of devotees that daily congregate in the 1,242 xattras and more than 1 lakh naamghars are properly screened and vaccinated."

Both Sarma and Mahanta urged the masses to follow the COVID-19 protocols in their daily activities.
