GUWAHATI: The NHRC (National Human Rights Commission) has sought the action-taken report from the State Chief Secretary on the attack on an on-duty doctor at Udali in Hojai district within four weeks. The NHRC has also asked the Chief Secretary to submit a copy of the report to the Secretary of the Ministry of Health to initiate necessary measures to ensure the safety & security of frontline workers in the country.

The NHRC has taken the move following the complaint on the attack on the doctor lodged before it by senior Supreme Court advocate Sneha Kalita on Wednesday.

Addressing the media in New Delhi on Thursday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "I've instructed the police to complete the investigation within 15 days and file the charge sheet before the fast-court within a month so that the punishment to the guilty is given within six months.

"I want to tell everyone that there is zero tolerance to such inhuman acts. We'll hit back and there'll be bigger reactions to all such actions."

In her complaint advocate, Sneha Kalita requested the NHRC to send a team for an independent investigation of the incident, to deploy and provide adequate police security in every hospital and COVID care centre to prevent such kind of violence and ask all the State governments to issue circulars to post the banners in every hospital for giving warnings to all attendants and others not to indulge in any kind of violence against the medical fraternity and health workers.
