GUWAHATI/DIMORIA: In one of the firsts, the State Revenue & Disaster Management (R&DM) Department launched SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas), including drones, at Khetri in the Kamrup (M) District today.

Survey of India will survey and map lands, property and other land features throughout the state, barring the Sixth Scheduled areas. The R&DM Department will provide logistic support to the Survey of India. Survey of India will set up 33 CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Stations) in the state. It will survey and map the villages using drones and other improvised technologies through the CORS.

Initially, this survey and mapping will begin with the Kamrup (M) and Darrang districts. State R&DM Minister Jogen Mohan launched this survey and mapping at Khetri near Sonapur in the Kamrup (M) district.

The survey aims at correcting land records for better rural development planning and providing property cards to people. The survey will also ensure GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping for the government to use for various other purposes.

Minister Jogen Mohan told The Sentinel that the move was part of the government's avowed decision on land reforms. "Under the land reform decision, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched Mission Basundhara on October 2. Today we launched SVAMITVA. This survey and mapping will provide us with micro-level maps of landed and other property, roads and other aspects of the land. Survey of India may take two years or more in this survey," the minister said.
