GUWAHATI: The State Government is surveying to ascertain if every family with a water supply connection under the JJM (Jal Jeevan Mission) gets water. The survey will be over by this month. If necessary, the government will take corrective measures in sync with the survey data.

Complaints from some areas against not getting water have necessitated the survey.

Talking to newsmen today, PHE (Public Health Engineering) Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said, "Around 25 lakh families have got water connections under the JJM. We have entrusted local self-help groups to conduct a door-to-door survey to see if all families with JJM water connections get water. The groups will upload the data of the survey in our mobile App. If we find people who do not get water, we will know the schemes under the JJM are not functioning smoothly. JJM will continue till 2024 in the state."

Mallabaruah said, "We will know the water supply picture under the JJM all over the state after the data compilation. We will take corrective measures based on the survey data."

He further said, "After the survey by self-help groups, we will send students to see the schemes. We will hold 'jalotsav' in line with the Gunotsav of the Education department. Officials will hop from village-to-village to inspect the water-supply schemes under the JJM."

Jal Jeevan Mission is to assist, empower and facilitate states/ UTs in planning participatory rural water supply strategy for ensuring potable drinking water security on a long-term basis to every rural household and public institution, viz. GP buildings, schools, Anganwadi centres, health centres, wellness centres, etc.
