GUWAHATI: Tata Power has stepped in to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in various areas in Assam. Representatives of Tata Power had a meeting with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to this effect today. The Chief Minister directed the Transport Department to examine the proposal from Tata Power.

According to sources, in phase I, Tata Power will set up ten charging points in Guwahati. Tata Power will install and maintain the charging points with charger management software. These points will be exclusively maintained by Tata Power. The target of Tata Power is to establish such points in 100 locations to be identified jointly by the Government of Assam and Tata Power.

The target of the Assam Government to make two lakh electric vehicles ply in the State in the coming five years has lured many parties to set up electric vehicle charging centres in the state. Already, around 150 electric vehicle charging centres exist in Assam.
