GUWAHATI : The security system – installation of the third eye or a network of CCTV cameras – on the Janata Bhawan premises is complete now. The development came in the run-up to making the State Secretariat a paperless entity from October 2.

The network of cameras will keep close tabs on the entry and exit of every person to and from the State Secretariat for security reasons.

The State Secretariat did have CCTV cameras installed earlier also. However, the earlier system left several areas uncovered. And some of the cameras were non-functional.

However, the present security system covers all seven blocks in the Janata Bhawan, including the Chief Minister's Block, with the installation of as many as 341 CCTV cameras. The cameras cover all the corridors of the seven blocks and the open places outside them. Security personnel will monitor from the control room. The GAD (General Administration Department-Secretariat) completed the project costing around Rs 11 crore.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is to inaugurate the control room of the Secretariat security bandobast on August 5 when the government will observe the Lok Kalyan Divas (public welfare day). The State Government will observe the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi as the Lok Kalyan Divas this year onward.
