GUWAHATI: Braving the present Covid-19 pandemic thousands of students on Sunday sat for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and prelims of the combined Competitive Exam (CCE), 2021. Both the examinations were conducted offline across the State by adhering to Covid safety protocols.

While the NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NIT) across the country to select meritorious students for admission into MBBS course in various medical colleges, the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) conducts the CCE to select candidates for Assam Civil Service (ACS).

"It was a major challenge to ensure the safe movement of such a huge number of students on a single day amidst the pandemic. After the board exams were cancelled this year, conducting NEET and APSC exams together is the first major challenge so far considering the students' health," an official in Kamrup Metropolitan district administration said.

Both the NEET and CCE were held at 141 centres in Guwahati. While thermal screening of candidates and masks were mandatory during entry, examinees were not even allowed to exchange any item, like water bottles, among themselves. A maximum of 12 students were allowed in an exam hall.
