GUWAHATI: State Agriculture and Veterinary Minister Atul Bora said on Monday that the government was laying a special thrust on the pig farming sector in the State.
Speaking at a departmental programme at Khanapara in Guwahati, he mentioned in this context that a pork processing unit had been set up in Nazira which would require 400 pigs daily for processing the meat. This processing unit will provide local youths with a ready daily market and thereby enhance self-employment avenues, he said.
Bora said that the government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was emphasizing on creating an 'Atma Nirbhar' Assam. As a result, the government had also set a target of producing 10 lakh litres of milk daily and signed an MoU in this regard with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). This project will also contribute to making the youth of Assam more self-reliant.
A total of 16 ambulances for livestock were distributed for various districts at today's function under the Pasudhan Sarothi scheme. Appointment letters were also distributed at the function to 13 trained field assistants. Bora further said that 162 veterinarians would also be recruited soon.
