GUWAHATI: Fani, characterized by pre-monsoon rains, has its impact in Assam where pre-monsoon flood and landslides have arrived in, earlier than usual.
Incessant rains since April 29, mainly in upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, have led to an untimely wave of flood in Tinsukia district, needing the State government to set up a relief camp. Around 277 people in Doomdooma Revenue Circle in Tinsukia district have been affected. The SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) has kept a rescue boat ready in the revenue circle where a DRDA bund has been breached at Chumoni.
In Dima Hasao district, a landslide is taking its toll on the residents. According to the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority), landslides blocked the Haflong-Silchar Road, Khongsai Road, Kanabasti Road, Mahadevtilla Road and Songpijang Road in the district. In Haflong Revenue Circle, around 150 houses have been fully damaged, besides partially damaging around 75 other houses.
