GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam today caught red-handed two officials of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) while accepting a bribe.
A complaint was received at the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, alleging that Dina Bandhu Kalita, in-charge Superintendent, Registration Branch of the office of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), in conspiracy with Syed Arisuddin Ahmed, Assistant Superintendent of the same office, had allegedly demanded Rs 2,000 bribe from the complainant for rectifying the complainant’s name in his HSLC certificate and mark sheet.
Not willing to pay a bribe, the complainant approached the Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the officials. Accordingly, a trap was laid today by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, in the SEBA office, Guwahati.
Syed Arisuddin Ahmed was caught red-handed in his office immediately after he accepted Rs 1,500 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his possession and was seized accordingly, in presence of independent witnesses.
Dina Bandhu Kalita, in-charge Superintendent, was also apprehended for demanding bribe from the complainant and accepting it through his assistant Syed Arisuddin Ahmed. An additional amount of Rs 6,550 was also recovered when Dina Bandhu Kalita was searched. The money was seized in presence of independent witnesses.
They both were arrested by the team of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam. In this connection, a case was registered in the ACB Police Station vide ACB PS Case No. 79/2023 under section 120(B) IPC, read with section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
