GUWAHATI: People working in private sector companies who have not yet taken the COVID-19 vaccine will have to take leave without pay from January 15, said Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha.

The Deputy Commissioner chaired a meeting with ADCs and officials of Kamrup (metro) district administration regarding the enhanced monitoring of COVID-19 cases, home isolation, intensified testing and vaccination. The DC stressed the need to sensitize people and to strictly ensure that people follow Covid protocols amidst rising COVID-19 cases.

Talking to The Sentinel, Jha said that private-sector employees, who have not taken the vaccine yet, must get themselves vaccinated or they will have to go on leave without pay from January 15. He added that the employers must ensure that their employees take both vaccine doses.

The district administration has started a mask-and-vaccination-check drive across the city. District administration officials visited shopping malls recently to check whether the employees and staff took vaccines and whether people were wearing masks. In addition, a team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kalpana Deka and other officials visited households around the Bharalumukh area where Covid-19 positive people are in-home quarantine. The team enquired about the availability of facilities, medications and compliance to home quarantine norms.

As per the Standard Operating Protocol (SOP), non-vaccinated people will not have access to any public place, barring hospitals, with effect from January 15, 2022. People must carry proof of double vaccine doses while visiting any public place. The authorities will hold the owners of public and private establishments responsible in case of violation of Covid protocols in their complexes.

In the wake of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the State, especially in Guwahati, the district administration has urged people to follow COVID appropriate behaviour.
