GUWAHATI: Pursuant to the earlier orders of the Gauhati High Court, the State Agriculture and the Food Safety Department told the Court that the Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) made available 200 kits to test contamination of chemicals in vegetables and that the state authorities intended to utilize the kits for the appropriate purpose from June 5, 2023 onwards.

The departments would also have to inform the Court of the progress of using the kits to ascertain contamination in vegetables by the next date of hearing the PIL (18/2018).

“The petitioner, Advocate Seema Bhuyan, should also make an inquiry and survey of her own to provide information as to whether there is any impact at ground level on the availability of the contaminated vegetables. The update to be given shall also contain information as to how many lots of contaminated vegetables were detected and in what manner the detection was brought to its logical end,” the bench comprising Justice Achintya Malla Bujor Barua and Justice Robin Phukan said. The Court listed the PIL for its next hearing in the week commencing June 19, 2023.
