GUWAHATI: Postal voting for the first phase of the Assam Assembly election has been underway since Tuesday (March 16) in all the 47 LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) set for polling in this phase.
Polling officials, accompanied by security personnel, are going door-to-door with postal ballots to enable those who applied for this mode of voting. The polling officials collect the polled postal ballots soon after the casting the votes. People availing of the postal-ballot facility of voting include electors aged over 80 years, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), COVID-19 suspects or affected persons, and a few others.
During the counting, postal ballots will be counted before the counting of votes polled through EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines). Counting of the three-phase State Assembly election will be on May 2.
