GUWAHATI: BJP president JP Nadda said that the Congress failed as it could not accommodate the regional aspirations for national unity.

Inaugurating the Northeast BJP office – Padma Bhawan — at Uzan Bazar in Guwahati today, Nadda attended a party workers' meet ITA Centre at Machkhowa in the city. Targeting the opposition, he said, "You are no match for us. We will go ahead despite your all-out resistance. What has reduced Congress to a small party? The party failed to accommodate the regional aspirations for national unity. Now Congress is a family-centric party of brothers and sisters. The regional parties have also become family-centric ones like the Congress. The BJP is not a family-centric party as it has a strong foundation based on conscience."

He said, "Once upon a time, making governments in the Northeast was beyond the imagination of the BJP. However, we are making strides in this region, let alone forming governments. We have formed governments twice in Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. In Assam, we are winning polls consecutively."

He further said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid much stress on the Northeast, besides treating it as the Ashtolakshmi. From connectivity to health, the region has made strides under the BJP."

He said that because of Gopinath Bordoloi and Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, Assam and the Northeast are integral parts of India still now.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the new building of the state BJP headquarters on October 8 this year."

Earlier, Nadda arrived at the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport from Agartala in the afternoon when Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita and leaders of the party received him. From the airport, Nadda went to the Kamakhya Temple.

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha were also present at today's function.
