GUWAHATI: The State government is in the dark as to when the blazing inferno at Baghjan oil well will be extinguished and the well capped. The government only pins its hope on a Canadian team of experts bound for Assam to fix the problem that has been lingering for around 100 days.
This was informed to the State Assembly by State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary while replying to a question raised by Congress MLA Durga Bhumij during the Zero Hour on Wednesday.
Raising the issue, Bhumij said, "Compensation to the affected families hasn't been completed as yet. What rehabilitation plan the government has for the victims' families is also not clear."
Patowary replied, "Already the OIL (Oil India Limited) has paid compensation to the victims' families. The oil giant is also going to pay Rs 2.50 lakh to each of the around 500 other affected families."
