GUWAHATI: The State Government has decided to provide attractive financial and career incentives to doctors to be posted at newly set up Assam Hills Medical College and Research Institute (AHMC & RI), Diphu.
The State Health & Family Welfare department has decided to provide a financial incentive to doctors at AHMC & RI which would be over and above the normal remuneration. The incentive will be equivalent to 25 percent of the basic pay of the incumbent.
The age of retirement of doctors who serve at AHMC & RI will be extended up to 70 years. The present retirement age of doctors serving at government hospitals is 65 years.
Besides rent-free accommodation, a doctor serving at AHMC & RI will be granted normal HRA as due during service period at the Diphu hospital (those not availing government accommodation). Additional HRA as applicable to the location where the family of a doctor resides will also be given.
The incentive package will be given to doctors at AHMC & RI for ten years. The government may extend the tenure of the package after completion of 10 years.
A senior doctor serving at Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College & Hospital has termed the government’s incentive package for faculties at AHMC & RI discriminatory and unfair. “There are many doctors serving in difficult and remote areas. Why has not the government given similar incentives to those doctors? Such an attractive incentive for a particular medical college & hospital will demotivate doctors serving at other medical colleges in the State,” the doctor said.
Another doctor at Jorhat Medical College & Hospital is surprised to know about the incentive package for doctors at AHMC & RI. “What is the rationale behind the government move? Does the government think that no doctor will go to Diphu?” he asked.
