MADRASSA BOARDS' ASSURANCE TO DGP
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta entrusted four minority boards of the state to bring unregistered madrassas into the state under the registered madrassa boards. He also urged the boards to upload details of madrassas working in the state in a portal that awaits launch. The boards have accepted the responsibility.
The four madrassa boards that sent their representatives to the meeting with the DGP are All Assam Tanjim Madrasis Quwmiya, Ali Sunnat, All Assam Nadwatul Ulama and the Assam State Jamiat Ulama.
The DGP sought cooperation from the boards in the war against jihadi modules active in the state. The DGP said, "Without active cooperation from these boards, it would not have been possible on the part of the government to uproot the ABT (Ansarullah Bangla Team) and AQIS (Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent) modules active in the state."
Seeking more cooperation from the boards, the DGP said, "The government will launch a portal soon for the four madrassa boards to upload details of all madrassas of the state. We urge the boards to ensure the merger of all unregistered madrassas under the registered boards run under government rules and regulations, besides uploading every detail of all madrassa teachers – where they hail from and their antecedents – in the portal within six months."
The heads of the minority boards assured the DGP that they would take all necessary steps for the fruitful implementation of the laws in the madrassas.
"We will bring any Madrassa functioning without affiliation to any board under the jurisdiction of a board. We ourselves don't want such Madrassas flourishing in the state without allegiance to any particular board," said Moulana Abdul Quadir Quasimi of the All Assam Tanzim Madaris Madrassa Board.
"One thing is final we will strictly tackle any individual or group found involved in any anti-national, anti-religious activities. Hence, we will provide whatever support DGP Mahanta has requested from us. Earlier too, we publicly expressed our support to the police, and today too, we stand by our decision," added Moulana Abdul Quadir Quasimi.
Lauding DGP's suggestion of introducing general subjects such as mathematics, geography etc., in the Madrassa curriculum, the heads of the religious minority boards have assured to implement the suggestions after negotiations with members of all the boards.
On police verification of Imams and teachers coming from other states, Moulana Abdul Quadir Quasimi said they would initiate the process as per the legal format. He further said that they would upload details of the imams and madrassa teachers on the portal.
