Will implement poll promises at breakneck speed: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that people voted the BJP-led alliance to power to implement the poll promises at a breakneck speed, not to rest.

The Chief Minister thanked the people for the clean sweep by the BJP-led alliance in the bye-poll in the state. The results of the bye-poll in all the five LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) were declared today.

Addressing the media here this evening after the bye-poll results, the Chief Minister said, "The love and blessings showered on us by the people of the state made me bow down before them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's journey for the development of Assam and other states in the Northeast has got the support of the people. The NDA partners have won the bye-polls in some other states in the region also. In Assam, people gave their unprecedented mandate to three BJP and two UPPL candidates.

"In the past six months, Assam started many development works, besides carrying out administrative and economic reforms. We have got the blessings of the people again. In the remaining four years and six months of this government, we will go ahead by taking all sections of people into confidence. We will work with an eye on development and civilization to make Assam one of the five most developed states of the country. "We will not take rest. People voted for us to power to implement poll promises at a breakneck speed, not to take a rest. We will leave no room for complacency, nor will we boast of this victory.

"For the first time, we got the votes of a particular section of people. The recent Gorukhuti eviction drive was the right decision. Today's bye-poll results have proved that. The people of two or three constituencies want a bye-poll. We will take up that matter later.

"Bhabanipur is a constituency where the first Assam Agitation martyr Khargeswar Talukdar died. The AGP won the LAC last in 2006. After that, the AIUDF won the LAC in the successive Assembly elections. Despite forming the government at Dispur, Bhabanipur LAC was a sore point for us. It is a matter of shame for the Assamese. The BJP won the Bhabanipur LAC today. This win has healed that pain."

The Chief Minister thanked BJP, AGP and the UPPL leaders and workers for making the alliance candidates win.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister dropped a hint that the civic body poll in the state may be in February next if the Covid-19 situation relents.
