GUWAHATI: Taking full responsibility as the Chief Minister of the State, Dr. Himnata Biswa Sarma said today that not a single candidate from outside the state would get an appointment as a teacher in the state.
Briefing the media today on the mega appointment distribution of 44,703 candidates on May 25 in Guwahati in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Chief Minister said, “Earlier we did oppose the appointment of candidates from outside in Assam government jobs. However, following an order from the Gauhati High Court, we cannot oppose such candidates anymore. However, with full responsibility as the Chief Minister of the State, I say that we will not appoint even a single candidate from outside the state as a teacher.”
He said, “We were supposed to provide letters to 45,000 candidates. However, after verification of candidates’ certificates, 44,703 candidates were found suitable. Barring NHM nurses, all these appointments are for regular posts, not contractual posts. We will publish additional merit lists for 189 Grade III and 637 Grade IV posts in July, besides advertising for 22,776 posts in that month.”
He said, “Now on, we are going to adopt a new appointment system for teachers. We have noticed that some candidates cleared B.Ed. from the universities of other states like West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkahnd, etc., which gave them higher marks. Likewise, some candidates graduate from open universities with higher marks. Though such universities are genuine ones, their candidates get an undue edge at the time of selection for the post of teacher. To check that, we are going to introduce a special written examination for candidates selected for the posts of teachers. The scores in the special examination will be the basis for their final selection.”
On the mega appointment on May 25, he said, “11,048 grade III candidates; 13,739 grade IV candidates; around 5,421 candidates for police, excise, and forest battalions, etc.; 3437 candidates in elementary education; 2,332 in higher education; 704 in colleges; 5,281 in the health department; 136 in sports and youth welfare; 211 in the agriculture department, etc.; will get appointment letters.”
On the breakup of the over 22,000 posts to be advertised in July this year, the Chief Minister said, “The posts include 2,500 posts in the Power sector, 2,500 in Agriculture, 2,000 in Police, 10,219 in Education, 1,000 in Panchayat and Rural Development, 600 in the Health Department, etc.”
