Won't contest 2021 Assam Assembly Election: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: State Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said he has already submitted a letter (written with own handwriting) to the Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass stating that he would not contest the 2021 Assembly election.

Sarma made this disclosure during an interaction programme after release of his book titled Eta Xopunor Pom Khedi in the city on Wednesday. The letter was submitted to Dass early in the morning of Sarma's last birthday on February 1. Sarma said his family members were also not aware of the letter. It may be mentioned that during the peak of COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 Sarma tweeted that he would not contest the 2021 elections.
