GAURISAGAR: Starving elephants often go rogue. To rescue the villagers from the wrath of the ugly man-elephant conflicts, a few youths under the banner of the Dikhowmukh Deogharia Yuvak Santha have planted bananas for elephant food.

The man-elephant conflict is a regular phenomenon in the riverine areas of the State. The people of the greater Dikhowmukh area all along have been the victims of the menace.

To put an end to the ever-worsening menace, the youth organization on the greater Dikhowmukh area in Sivasagar district has stepped in with a unique measure. On Friday, the activists of the organization planted as many 500 banana trees in the Dhanekhowa Chapori of the Brahmaputra. The youth brigade headed by its founder president Amrit Baruah and a good number of youths of the village came out spontaneously and planted banana trees for elephant food.
