Large Quantity of Molasses Seized in Namrup

A large quantity of molasses, which is banned in Assam was seized in Namrup. The molasses (lali gur) was being brought from Karbi Anglong. A team if excise officials apprehended the molasses acting on a tip off. Molasses is used to make country liquor or hooch and therefore banned in Assam after about 168 people died in the state last year after consuming hooch.
