GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi condoled the death of the former President of India and Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee who breathed his last today after battling for his life for the last few weeks.

In a condolence message here today, Governor Professor Mukhi said, "Saddened to learn the passing away of Pranab Mukherjee ji, a statesman, a visionary and a versatile politician who worked tirelessly for the welfare of all sections of the society". He had contributed immensely throughout his life with deep commitment and compassion.

As a President also, he made an indelible mark to glorify the spirit of parliamentary democracy and strengthening the edifice of democratic federalism. He left behind a legacy of his works which will definitely be a source of inspiration for the posterity. His death is an irreparable loss and marks an end to an era.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in a statement here on Monday said Pranab Mukherjee was an embodiment of value-based politics. "A towering personality, he contributed immensely to political and other aspects of the country. He worked dedicatedly for projecting India on different national and international forums. A true statesman, a tall and multi-dimensional figure of Indian politics, his death will be great loss to the country. Considered as people's man, he worked for the welfare of people of all sections. His contributions to politics, economy, history, diplomacy along with others were unparallel," stated a release.

State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Pranab Da, one of modern India's finest leaders, a statesman and a visionary, is no more with us. His legacy shall be something to cherish forever."

Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said, 'Pranab Mukherjee was a revered scholar and statesman. The former President was admired and respected by all sections of the people. He has left an indelible mark in the history of our nation. His demise is an irreparable loss to the country.'

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, AGP president Atul Bora, AGP working president Keshab Mahanta, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury, and APCC president Ripun Bora also expressed grief over the demise of the former president.
