DHEKIAJULI: The Dhekiajuli Municipality Board employees staged a sit-in in front of the Dhekiajuli Municipality Board office on Tuesday at the call of the All Assam Civil Body Association in support of their long-standing demands.

Sunil Kumar Sharma, president of All Assam Civic Body Association, who is also associated with the Dhekiajuli civic body, said that their sit-in would continue till September 3. Sharma added that for the last few years they had been repeatedly raising their demands before the State Government, but in vain.

The demands include an ordinance of staffing pattern, immediate release of their pending salaries, and putting on hold the indiscriminate appointment in the Municipality Board. On Tuesday, all the staff of the Dhekiajuli Municipality Board participated in the protest.

Sharma further said that after September 3 if the government did not take any positive steps for fulfilling their demands then they would intensify their stir. Meanwhile, citizens of Dhekiajuli Municipality Board areas are facing problems due to the ongoing strike of the municipal employees.
